Honeymoon in Dec 09 - Suggestions for Resorts

Thinking of honeymoon leg 1 in Andamans in December 09. 2nd leg probably in Phuket.

So here are some pre-requisites. Request some inputs in terms of accomodation

1. On the shore. Seclusion. peaceful with little population

2. Hut/Cottage/Bungalow whatever. Air-conditioned probably

3. Beach right outside.

have checked out Barefoot, Havelock and ITC Fortune. Any other options? Budget isnt an issue.

Your options would probably be Barefoot, Silversand and Wild Orchid.

Of the three Barefoot seems to be the options which fit you best. Barefoot at Havelock is located at beach number 7 and is very suitable as a honeymoon resort (just make sure you make a reservation early as they fill up for December very fast). Barefoot Scuba Dive Resort (Cafe Del Mar) is at beach number 3 and has 6 cottages with sea view which are nice (but more people and no air condition). In addition to this there is a new Barefoot resort in Collinpur (very basic but fantastic place) and one more will be running in Avis Island in the north (also very basic but on a private island).

Hello, Tavarish, how do you know about the new places opening in Collinpur and in Avis Island? Have you already visited them? Sounds extremely interesting.

OrangeStreet, I agree that Barefoot on Havelock is a fantastic place for a honeymoon. You can opt for an air-conditioned chalet. It is a five minute walk to the beach. Very quiet and idyllic (or at least that was how it was in February 2006 when we visited Havelock). There were other honeymoon couples there. Oh, and congratulations to you and your future wife.

Thank you for your wishes theyyam.. Appreciate the valuable suggestions. I was just browsing through Wild Orchid's website as well and it looks pretty neat too..

Yes, I have kind of zeroed down on barefoot but still looking at more options. Its going to be an extended holiday-cum- honeymoon lol.. So am looking at staying in more than one resort during the 3 week duration.

Thanks again.

OrangeStreet, a thought just occurred to me - I read in the press a while back that there is an island which belongs to Thailand located in the Andaman Sea (not so very far away from Havelock as the crow flies) accessible from mainland Thailand. I will try to remember the name of it. It was something that struck my imagination as a great hideaway place. (Maybe beyond your budget or mine though, I can't remember.)

Are you talking about Phi Phi island?

http://www.andamanbeachresort.com/

Rates dont look atrocious to me and seem to be well in my budget provided its the same place you mentioned.

And you know what, it looks lovely. I might have just found what I was looking for.

Did you say one has to go to this island via Thailand?

No, it was one I had never heard of. Tiny place, very nearby the Indian Andamans. I will look for it on google. (For myself as much as anything!!!)

Silversand got nice rooms but as the resort seems to be built more for an indian audience, many would probably say they lack a bit of atmosphere.

Hello theyyamdancer, I know about them as I helped out a bit at Barefoot Scuba last season. In the end of the season we was taken by Barefoot to these two new properties to see how they developed.

When we was in Collinpur there was already some guests there, and we was told that Avis Island would be operational in October or November 2009. It was quite basic accommodation, but both places was absolutely stunning, very secluded.

Was told by the director of Barefoot Scuba that they would open a dive operation on Avis Island in November 2009, and was looking into opening one in Collinpur as well. Apparantly great diving both places, never tried it myself.
