Well wrong Radjesh... i know people who do not know how to swim and are PADI certified divers.. you might be right on snorkelling though

I was in Port Blair just over a week ago and while waiting for my return flight to chennai the Deccan air flight was diverted - unable to land in PB due to bad weather (and it was bad!) I was on the Jet flight and it was able to land and get away again ok, with only a bit of a delay. I would highight though, that this is the rainy season and the airport at PB is not an easy one for landing. If the wind speed is high then flights have to turn back. In December, the weather will be much calmer so less chance of weather related delays or cancellations.

In short - I love it there, and the visit last week was my fourth. My first visit was in December 2004 so the place has a bit of a hold on me!!

I travelled on air deccan on this sector when chennai-portblair was newly launched. the filght was delayed by 1 hrs but overall journey was smooth. the return journey for two of us was around rs 6000 & the flight was full so no cancellation due to lack of passengers :-) point to note is the veer savarkar airport in PB is open for all passenger planes(including IA & jet) only till 12:00 noon so if your flight gets delayed too much then chances are it might get cancelled, also weather is more dominant factor in flight delay/cancellation on this route.

Now that Kingfisher Airlines has taken over Air Deccan, there shouldnt be any problems at all given Kingfisher's excellent service

yes, i have flown Spice Jet to Port Blair, just after they started in October and was actually pretty impressed despite myself! The flight was a little delayed due to the later opening of Port Blair airport apparently? Seemed a bit puzzling. However the early hour, despite being horrendous in lack of sleep and leaving home at 2.30 am, meant a spectacular light over the islands as we came in to land.

I flew Deccan simplified or whatever from Delhi to Chennai on Sunday and was not impressed. Only my opinion, but old craft, uncomfortable seating and expensive plastic tea..........

Know this is an old thread, but thought this info may be useful to anyone planning a trip to Port Blair.

Looks like Kingfisher have decided to consolidate the Kingfisher and Deccan flights on this route. It is still shown in their schedules, but I just tried to book Kingfisher only to be told that 'for operational reasons' Kingfisher were not flying Chennai - Port Blair route with effect from 11th Feb 2008. They did not know how long this would last.
