Fishing

I'll be in the Adamans for 2 weeks this february and march. I'm an avid fishermen and was wondering what the fishing is like in the Andamans? What should a bring and what would i most likely catch. I have a 9 foot 9 wieght flyrod i was planning on bringing with me. Also do i need a special permit to fish there?

The Andaman and Nicobar islands are an island chain in the Bay of Bengal about 600 miles off the mainland of India. They are actually closer to Sumatra and surrounding area's then they are to India.

surmai, trevally, barracuda, jackfish.....grouper. plenty of fish in the sea.
no fancy boats, though. you'll have to rely on fishing dunghis (like dhonies)

Oh god dungees are horrible. Spent 6 hours on one from Port Blair to Havelock Island a week ago. Good thing i took the ferry back to port Blair yesterday. Now if my plane wasn't delayed i'd be heading for chennai right now instead of wasting time on the airports pay computer.

Andaman fishing

Hi there
I have been fishing the Andamans for the last 2 years and I can assure you they are among the best place I have ever been.

Unfortunately they are far from everything and quite difficult from the logistic point of view but once there!

There are just few sportfishing charter companies which come from Phuket in Thailand to fish these waters from February till April on live aboard trips.

This year I fished with "The Big Blues" aboard the Blind Strike, a new 17m motor yacht from Phuket, and we fished for full 6 days the area around Havelock and Barren Island. Amazing and unforgettable experience, can only recomend you.

Cheers
