Hi Sypher,I really do not think safety is an issue on Havelock and i think you can do a bit better than both of the "resorts",notice the inverted commers, that you have mentioned. Those two just happen to realise the benefits of advertising. Pay their prices if you want but you can do much better when you arrive unannounced.

It would help to understand what your budget is. Most of the accommodation on Havelock is fairly low budget, but there are also some mid range options plus the top end Barefoot.

Dolphin's setting is spectacular and is by far the best on the island. You have to book it at Port Blair in advance (ask your hotel in Port Blair to do it) and you can't just show up. The resort is a cluster of well spaced out A/C cottages with enormous attached bathrooms and each with small verandahs with wicker chairs and the views of the sea are to die for. Ideal for a family. Also, the setting is amongst huge nice manucured gardens where you can lounge around or go down to the beach which is just a small flight of stairs down.
However, since it is a Govt. run resort , the restaurant has a limited menu mostly catering to Indian family tourists and has to be ordered a few hours in advance. |

Thanks
HI all
Thanks all for the responses. I agree to the point raised by Martinez, I could find only these two as the best options for my budget(benefit of advertising )I like Barefoot as well but that is too steep for me. Any other mid range options would be of great help. Thanks again SJ |

Sea Shells is mid range and offered good value as it first opened (this time last year). The standard of accommodation relative to price was way better than anything else that we found mid-range.
You can't rely on booking Dolphin at the last minute - priority is given to government officials and some people we spoke to said it is almost impossible to book as an individual. Barefoot has a 'budget' alternative on the opposite side of the island, but we would have this down as an 'avoid' - way too expensive for the quality of accommodation. |

Hi...just got back from Havelock and I would say that Island Vinnie's is a great place...the people there (Evelyn and Sayeed, the dive instructors) are so much fun and you will have a good time there.
I saw Dolphin resort from outside and its nice but again the problem is with the booking. You have to do it only from Port Blair so it might be a pain. Seashells is good and there is another resort called Pristine resort which was pretty decent. Avoid Silversand and Barefoot as they are too expensive. Enjoy your stay there. Harsha |

Hi
Am back from Andamans, during my stay in Havelock I stayed in Bayview : Its a budget hotel but not very clean, they charge 800/1500 for non ac and ac rooms. Island Vinnie: Its a place to stay in, amazing place. They charge 1400 but the place is worth the money. It was fun to stay there. Thanks to you all for all the help. SJ |
