cheap beach huts with power?

Looking to hangout on either Havlock or Neil Island with a schedule of snorkel, beach, work on my laptop, snorkel. So the gist is I'd like to find a nice cheap place where I can still be able to charge my laptop from time to time and have access to coral off the beach(cheaper the better but would like to have a door I can lock to keep things somewhat secure). I'm I better off heading to Havelock or Neil Island to find what I'm looking for or should I split time between them both?

Neil is a tiny island with 4 or 5 Beach Hut resorts altho the State Govt Hawabill Guest House is quite upmarket with A/C,Cable TV ,Telephone ,Hot showers but surprisingly cost only 800 Rs. Bicycles on hire are the main transport. The island is a bit of a secluded place but has spectacular beauty and you can do scuba and snorkelling and there is also a beach where during low tide you can literally walk amongst the corals. There is a place called Tango beach resort ( www.tangobeachresort.in ) which has Beach Huts /cottages right on the beach and also has a restaurant /bar. I think the basic huts were for 150-200 Rs and the cottages 800Rs.Tango would be ideal for you.

Havelock is a larger and more popular and more developed island with a host of accomodations from the very cheap beach resorts to the pricey Barefoot ( www.barefootindia.com) and Siver Sands ( www.silversandhavelock.com ). Island Vinnie (www.islandvinnie.com) is a good mid price option ( you can inevitably catch their mascot dogs swimming in the sea when you walk by ). The cheaper resorts line Beach No.5 or Vijayanagar Beach. I believe all the beach huts have electricity but can't be sure if they have plug points. Most people living in the Huts leave their valuables with the manager during the day.Havelock has patchy dial-in internet access and both Neil / Havelock have mobile coverage.

The snorkelling off Elephant beach in Havelock is breathtaking but is not too easily accessible from land due to dense tropical forest but I believe a road does exist but is not too popular . A 20 minute detour through the sea is the most popular access and is well worth it. Beach No.7 is the stuff of dreams. There is regular bus sevice from the jetty to Beach No.7 and also along Beach No. 5 where most of the resorts are lined. Hired motorbikes are the main means of travel for tourists.

My suggestion would be to spend a couple of days in Neil and the majority in Havelock.

i stayed at seashells resort at beach no 2, havelock. it was off season and was a bit of luxury at 800rps and there is very good snorkelling straight off the beach there, all along the edge of the reef, best at low tide.
each side of seashells are resorts, varying in style and price, some with basic huts and some more fancy and with electricity but all along there is the reef to snorkel.
a couple of israelis were starting a dive centre 2 resorts along. sorry, i don't remember the names but seashells would be a good starting point.
bypass tango's (on neil)if you are not too much into alcohol. i met an irish guy who said he wandered in there for a look, one evening and he quickly turned around and walked out and warned me not to go there without a gun!! probably not always that bad. that was in august and was mostly the locals letting off steam, apparently.
snorkelling is good around the jetty at neil. swim along the edge of the reefs there.

I know the young israel couple, Itay & Noa, the name of their diving center is Blue Lagoon Divers. You will find the diving center inside the Eco villa resort, next to seashell at beach no. 2.But i remember that sea shell was quiet larger and had more huts to offer! I made a diving course with blue lagoon divers. It was so great and Itay & Noa are so patient&heartfull people. ask them also for good snorkeling sides! I was staying in off season in eco villa, it was pretty cheap, but they told as that in high season the prizes are much higher...but the food was super excellent. Every hut had electricity. Cheers

yes, they are a nice couple and they have chosen a choice place to start a business in.
seashells was a perfect spot to do the comfort and desalting thing, before leaving the islands. the huts are very modern and clean but no air con. not in the one i stayed in.
the food trip was not good but they were not organised as there were so few people there when i stayed.

Are you better off booking accomodation on havelock before you go, or is it easy enough to just sort it when you arrive? Prices online seem a lot more expensive than what I have seen mentioned on here!

banksie, i was there in august and there were plenty of vacancies then. a couple of places, i was the only customer for some of the time. at the government guest house on neil and at the seashells resort on havelock. it depends on when you go. august was the off season, but it was still a good time to be there, with cloud cover much of the time, some rainy days and some sunny days. i went snorkelling nearly every day.

Thanks just got to port blair today I'll head to Neil tomorrow then come back eventually via Havalock. Just a heads up for people arriving on the boat and they would only give me 15 days until I booked a return ticket. Catch of course is you can't book a return ticket one month in advance on the ferry. So I guess I just have to come back to port Blair in a couple weeks and extend and book a ticket. Stupid and annoying. So I'm not sure if 30 + 15 is possible.
