Booking a ship to Andamans

I would like to go Kolkata > Port Blair on 10.03.09. As i arrive on 03.03.09, it may be too late to book this by that time.

Is anyone aware of booking the ship directly with Shipping Corporation of India Ltd ?

It seems that I might have to be there in person for 'formailities'?

Else, is anyone aware of a travel agency which would book it for me?

Best thing to do is phone the directorate of shipping at The Strand ,Kolkata.Best thing to do is to ask them. However, i don´t think you will have a problem getting a booking even at the late hour.

You have to be there in person but calling wouldn't hurt. Calcutta seems to be more difficult than going from Madras. I ended up buying my ticket in Calcutta then taking the train all the way to madras and going form there. It really seems to be up to the person weather they want to sell you a ticket or not. I bought a ticket in Calcutta for the boat leaving from madras and on the same day I later found out some people in Madras were told they couldn't get a ticket. They did eventually. One of the most idiotic paperwork burdened process for traveling in India and that is saying a lot. Be prepared to wait around while 5 guys behind a counter during the supposed office hours talk amongst themselves and drink tea. Ah to be have a government job in India, pay without work. Good luck be persistent and you'll get on a boat.
