andamans in late november / early december
hello
ive been reading through this site a lot recently looking for information on the andaman islands... we are thinking about travelling to kerala for 3 weeks then flying over to the andamans for maybe 10 days, ive seen some confusing / conflicting information about the monsoon and rain... please does anyone know if its likely that we'd catch rain in november / december? it is impossible to predict the weather that far ahead where i come from to any certainty and if that is the case here, then i apologise for asking... also i am forming a list of hotels in the andaman islands before selecting one or two, is it against forum rules to post a list here? ive not found a full listing of them anywhere... |

Hi & Welcome to Indiamike.
Late November & Early December Chances of rains are very less. Sometimes it rains here during diwali time which will be late October or early November. You can post a list of hotels in Andamans on this forum, should not be a problem. Ronak.

i keep stumbling upon numurous reports of sandflys, i dont like the sound of them...the reports date over several years as well..which suggests theyre a consistent problem...
are you guaranteed to run into them? does anyone know? |

Hi Jayamber,and welcome to Indiamike.
RAIN.I have spent the last two Decembers on Neil Island and both times we had rain. In 2007 there was light rain for a few hours during the day,but only once. In 2008 HEAVY rain for a couple of hours one night soon after Christmas day. Sand flies. The Andamans are HEAVING with all sorts of wildlife, including sand flies, the trick to avoiding them is to stay in the wind if on the beach. As soon as you go around the corner into a nice sheltered place out of the wind for some sun bathing, WHOOSH!!!!one becomes sand fly dinner. Easy to avoid though. If you donīt like creepy crawlies, then maybe Andaman is not for you,nor Kerala for that matter. In two whole months at Andamans i never recieved one bite from a sand fly,but some people get bitten ragged. |

i also had no problem with sandflies for the month i was there and i was out a lot at night. i was there in august.not much of a problem with mosquitoes either but i only spent one night in a bamboo hut. the mozzies were rife there and ants came into my bed and woke me up. had to rinse out my suitcase as the ants had moved into the lining, with their eggs!

In any case, you'll be in one of the world's great island destinations, with some truly, truly world class beaches. Just get excited about that and forget about sand flies! |

yes...
i wandered the beach at sunset. i was at neil island and beach 2 at havelock. sandflies tend to be around where there are mangroves and there are some at beach no2.
just cover up around that time. there may have been some but i don't recall them as an issue. |

There are certainly chance of light rain in November and December, but it is less than the months before. To be more or less guaranteed no rain you have to come from middle of January to middle of May.
There are sandflies around, more on beach 7 than beach 4 and 5 it seems. They are a challenge, but not as much as it sometimes can seems according to posts on forums. Beach dogs are more of a challenge for a number of tourists it seems. But generally Havelock is a peaceful island with few challenges. |
