Andamans in August - how bad is the rain?

Am planning a trip to andamans in mid- to late- august 2009, after I get married in Darjeeling. Not quite a honeymoon, but want to get away for a few days. Some of my family who will be coming to india for the wedding are also planning a few days near the sea after the wedding.

How bad is the rain in august? I know the south west monsoons will still be there, but as it's nearing the end of the season, will the rain be intermittent?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Emma

i was there through august, last year, and it was great. much cooler than the mainland, near chennai. i was able to go snorkelling every day and there was a lot of cloud cover when it wasn't raining.
there were only one time where it rained down really hard for hours and that was at night, when we were about to go fishing. got stuck for some time under an awning, watching frogs and other creatures, scuttling and hopping about.
but, each season would probably be a bit different so there is no assurances about wet season weather.
good luck, though.

thanks for that. trying to figure out somewhere for future hubby and I to go, somewhere to send my parents, plus lots of family and friends who are coming for the wedding. have become the unofficial travel agent for all.
doesn't help that despite living in India for 3 years, I've hardly seen any of the country outside of West Bengal. Don't get to travel much, unfortunately.

check out about the dolphin resort. it has separate small buildings with 2 rooms (i think) and verandahs and it is a lovely view from there. right on the beach. it is the government resort on havelock and also has a restaurant. i talked to an indian man who was staying there and he thought it was a fabulous place to stay.
