| Andaman questions Hey everybody, I'm wondering how "bad" is the ferry ride to the Andaman’s? We are two young people (Male and female) I wouldn't say that we are too delicate. But the longest I've ever spend "transporting" is 48 hours on a train from Goa to Delhi. I'm kinda hoping that someone who has done this trip will come with personal experiences. If you sail out there and the fly back - can you then arrange plane tickets at the Andaman’s or do you have to have that sorted out before you leave the mainland? Does anyone know when the sailing schedule for jan-feb 2005 is out? Thanks in advance!!!

| Well, I've just gone through all the threads in this sub-forum, and no-one has been to the islands. COME ON! Someone must have gone - are you holding out on the rest of us? ![]() |

| Andeman-Nikobar Shipping Dept. does not permit any travel agent to buy the ship tickets on behalf of their guest/client. The rule is that the concerned passenger(s) have to physically go to the office of the Shipping Dept. in Chennai alongwith 2 copies of Passport size photographs (of each passenger), fill up an application form, pay the full amount in cash & then do the ship ticket booking. Chennai - Port Blair - Journey time about 60 hrs Calcutta - Port Blair - Journey time about 66 hrs Vishakapatnam - Port Blair - Journey time about 56 hrs Ships for the Chennai (Madras) and Kolkata (Calcutta) sectors are available about 4 times a month and for Vishakapatnam once in a month. | Dear Laerke, I have just returned from Port Blair. I met the Vice Principal of the Government Polytechnic in Port Blair, who had just returned from Chennai on Ship (the name of the ship is Harshavardhan). From what the Vice Principal told me, the journey is not comfortable at all and many people fall sick. While the time mentioned above by our friend "himadventures" is correct, the journey can take longer depending upon the Weather. So I would suggest that you fly to portblair from Chennai or Kolkata. However, if you like ferry rides, there are plenty of options for inter-island ferry in Andaman Islands which you can explore. These are much shorter journeys. Have a nice time in Andaman!!! |

| Sometimes Air Deccan accepts foreign credit cards and sometimes not. Tickets are about the same price with them if you book them thru an Indian travel agent. I haven't travelled by boat but have heard some good reports and some bad reports |
