Andaman Islands
Anyone been?? Are there cheap places to stay out there?
Has anyone done the boat trip?

Are you referring to the sight seeing boat trip to redskin island and the other islands?
To travel between islands you have to take the ferry unless you have good contacts in high places and get to use the chopper.
Cheap places are there . You have to reach there and look around.

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

Hi, check out this thread for tips and stuff......
I presume you mean getting there by boat. Its grand by all accounts once you get the ticket which is blue bloody murder. Air Deccan do flights for 60 Euros.
200 rups a night basic accomodation.
100 rups per bottle beer.
300 rups per bottle local rum.

Andaman Islands
Hi Friend,
I was at Andaman in Nov last year with my two frnds and had one of the best holidays. We stayed at Hotel Tejas and for a triple occupancy A/c room we paid just 700 rs which was not bad at all. For breakfast we use to go to this little tea shop outside near the hotel and had fresh idlis and tht too just for Rs. 36 (for 03 ppl).
As for the sightseeing we hired the van at the hotel which took us around. you could also hire an autorickshaw as they are reasonably priced. Please do not miss Chirya Tapu (even if the ppl say its deserted after tsunami etc).. Its BEAUTIFUL.. took my breath away ..
For Viper islnad, Ross island & North Bay you get ferries (again reasonable) . However for Havelock island I would suggest that you book it in advance to avoid the last minute dissapointment (we cudnt get the tkts).
To go to Mount HArriet you will be required to pay just 03 bucks to get on the ferry which takes you to a port from where you can hire a van (just Rs. 250) for a couple of hours. At Mount Harriett do visit the japanese well.
For cellular jail what we did was go for the sound & light show in the evening and next morning we again went there and with the help of a local guide at the jail we saw & learnt that part of history of struggle for freedom which we din get to study in school or college..
Also suggested is some good time to be spared for Chatham Saw mill (i sat there reading a book for quite some time)
All in all I would say Andamans is a paradise and extremly safe (i went for my dinner all alone and later even walked half the way to the hotel..cant even think of doing so in any other part of India)
