Smile Andaman in May

Hello,

I am flying to the Andaman Islands on May 9 after two weeks of travelling in Arunachal Assam. I will stay in the islands for two weeks and would like to do some diving, travel around and meet people there. Anybody travelling there during that period?

Do you have any idea which islands you plan to visit?

We just spent a week in Havelock and enjoyed it, but I am not sure I would have enjoyed it quite so much in the rain.....

There was great snorkelling, and a nice little village with a market to wander round, but the beauty of Havelock is that there isn't much to see or do!

Port Blair is the entry point regardless of where you plan to go, and it was a much buzzier place than we had expected. In bad weather a few days there may be a good idea.

As to the other islands, people we met said that the accom was all pretty basic, which you may also want to take into account in your planning.

Havelock & Neil Islands are the two best places to spend your maximum no. of days. You can do some sight seeing in Port Blair (Like Cellular Jain, Ross Island, 2 - 3 Musueums etc.,) Then head straight to either (or both) of the islands mentioned above. It will be really hot at this time. Snorkelling & Scuba diving are the activities to do while on this Islands.

Ronak.

I was there in December & the temp was around 28 C. Be prepared for May. Havelock is an unbelievable place, too good. Also try to go to the smaller islands like Cinque and Neil island

I'm also thinking of heading over there around about mid may.

I keep reading it will be rainy, can anyone confirm if this is all day kinda rain or an intensive burst say once or twice a day? If it's the latter I think I can put up with the heat and humidity for the peace and quiet.

thanks

It is hard to tell exactly how it will be, expecially with weather patterns changing so much.

Last year the rains were very late, and not as sustained as they usually are. However, they can be very heavy and disrupt flights (many can be diverted and unable to land at Port Blair).

It does mean that the islands are lush and amazingly green. I was there a few times in the monsoon last year and it didn't disrupt things, apart from some flights.

thanks for the quick reply!

that's only added more confusion for me

after I posted I also read that many of the traveller facilities such as accomodation and restaurants pretty much close down out of season - I'm guessing this includes May?

also due to the amount of rain, does this mean there's likely to be more mosquitos do you think? I'm pretty prone to bug stress and I can't relax!

thanks again

original poster, are you still heading there on 9th May?

They are having a lot of malaria there, I read in a news report recently. I guess that means a lot of mosquitoes, yes.
