Hi, I would reccommend the Andaman Islands very highly. We were there in October for the 2nd monsoon and stayed on havelock. It was still great even when the weather was bad. it's a very relaxed atmosphere with all the beauty of the thai islands (and more) but without the drunken idiots all over the place.
For food go to the Emerald gecko, it's slightly more expensive than usual but the fish is incredible. Be warned it shuts at 9pm, there are no dedicated bars to speak of but Pristine (we stayed here for a few nights) and a couple of the other basic hut places stay open until later. Beach number seven is magical, one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to and it's almost deserted! We learnt to scuba dive with island Vinnies, they were great and the diving is perfect, we never saw another group! Sorry to rave on about it but I had the best 2 weeks there. The only downside I found was Port blair. It was quite unfriendly and although there are some interesting things to see, it's not the island paradise that the rest of the islands are. Also getting the ferry to Havelock can be a little traumatic! We had to queue for around 3 hours for the afternoon tickets and then there was the usual stampeded as the queue dissolved! Fun in hindsight but not at the time! It is possible to talk/bribe your way on without a ticket but there are no guaruntees. Also i just took my regular Larium tablet and despite having around 100 mosquito bites on each leg, I was fine! Enjoy your stay! |
