Andaman in May? From Chennai with Ferry

Hello. I want to visit the Andamans in May next year. Is the weather okay? How about staying there until june?

How do i book a place on the ferry from Chennai? I want to go by sea.

How is the prices on the islands, compared to the rest of India?

Is it possible to connect to the internet?

Thank you so much

Jesper

May will be very hot. Prices are moderate for eg. an A/c Room in Port Blair would cost around Rs. 1000 & Non A/c room in Havelock would be roughly Rs. 500 or cheaper during this time. Yes it is posible to connect to Intenet in Andamans.

Ronak.

As above, it will be hot. It will also probably rain quite a bit.

You've got to go down to the Port in Chennai, this is where you buy your ticket. Make sure to find out the next sailing date (they leave every week or 10 days or so I think) and get your ticket in advance, Bring along plenty of passport pictures and copies of your passport. A place in bunk class cost 1550 Rupees in 2005, it's probably around the same now.

Pretty similar. If you eat at the dhabad, then it's very cheap. Beach hut prices are comparable to Goa, as is the food prices and service at these huts.

There are a couple of good places in Port Blair. When I was there, there was talk of getting internet on Havelock, but I seriously doubt this has happened yet, although I could be wrong (it's over two years now since I visited).

Yeah it's one month, with a 2 week extension possible.

(Edit) The permit is available on arrival at Port Blair

Update Feb 07: Yes there is an internet connection at Havelock. Just opp. the Jetty. They also had a CD writing. Till now they might have upgraded to DVD Writer. Shop name is Havelock tourist services. This was also the only shop selling Ice Creams in Havelock at that time.

We had burned some our our pics in a CD, which we forgot at the shop & instead picked a blank CD. After returning to Port Blair when we wanted to make a double of that CD (to be on safe side) we realised that the original is still at Havelock. We called up the shop at Havelock & the owner lady speed posted it to our Mumbai address. So kind of her.
