Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Hi everyone! Wow I haven't been back for a while!

I am thinking of heading to the Adaman and Nicobar Islands this time. I've been to India 3 times now and have seen quite a lot. Havn't been back for a few years and the next vacation slot is set for January 2007!

Can anyone help me out with the following questions?

-Is Malaria an issue? (Wife is pregnant thus important that we keep the health risks at a minimum)

-Thinking of flying into Chennai from Berlin (Air France) and then on to Port Blair (Jet Airways); heard there was a boat...is the ferry a viable alternative? Just want to see if I can save cash or soak up nice vibes through alternative travel options.

-Can anyone recommend accomodation?

I would love to get some feedback on any experiences any of you may have had on the islands.

We never made it there before so we were thinking of pushing 3-4 weeks on nothing but beach relaxing this time.

Thanks in advance

Hi!

Schoene Gruesse nach Deutschland.

Try to check if you can find a cheap flight by airdeccan.
I have already booked a flight (two ways) to the andamans for February (11.02-25.02) and I have paid 5998 Rs (appr. 100 EUR).
Even a boat trip is not much cheaper and you save a lot of time.
The duration of a boat trip is about 60 hours while you only fly for 2-3 hours.

A friend of mine just came back from the andamans. It is very hot there. And there are a lot of moskitos. It is good to buy a moskito repellent (Odomos, Not Autan).
It is very beautiful there but also a little bit dangerous.
You should wear shoes in the water (because of the pufferfish (Kugelfisch) and be careful of underwater currents.
The beaches shall be very beautiful but don't expect to find many beaches on the eastside (tsunami 2004).
The food must be great there. For 150 Rs you can have a great meal!
My friend also told me that it is very calm there. Normally you go to bed at 8 pm. There are no parties or bars.
It will be a mor relaxing and chilling time.

I am looking forward and I hope you will enjoy your stay at the andamans.

Viele Gruesse
Stephan
