Andaman & Nicobar Islands:: GUIDANCE

Hello,

We are 2 families with small kids (AGE: infant, 3,3,7) going to Andamans for 4 nights.

Any advise would be heplful planning the trip from families who have covered this place.

Our main interest after reading the forums would be Port Blair 2 nights and Havelock 2 nights or shall we make it a day trip only to Havelock??

What are the best options to stay in both the places. Please let us choose between (Port Blair: Fortune or Peerless or Sinclairs)
(Havelock: Barefoot or Dolphin or Wild Orchid)

Since we are with kids do the resorts in Havelock provide Room Service ( i read somewhere that there is no room service in all the resorts of Havelock islands)? Is there any problem of reptiles/insects in Havelock?

Ram

I was in Andamans in Jan 2007 for a vacation with my family & have written a review at mouthshut : http://www.mouthshut.com/review/Port...-121758-1.html

2 nights at Port Blair might be less if you would like to visit the nice places at leisure. Regarding places to stay, I did not put up at any resort that u've mentioned, but I just looked up my lonely planet INDIA guide. By what I read, all these resorts have spectacular views but are overpriced. Maybe you too can refer a copy of lonely planet. It has loads of info.

Regarding Havelock, for the adventure folks, one can spend over 2-3 days exploring, hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, etc. I feel 1 day stay is too less for Havelock.
And yes, I did see a couple of snakes on the road & was a bit scared to venture out on the roads at night. We stayed at Wild orchid. There was no room service. But the sea food was amazing. Dolphin is just next to wild orchid & is a govt owned not so great resort. Barefoot is expensive & the best in Havelock as it is on the Radhanagar beach.

2 days in Port Blair is enough for a quick overview and a short daytrip to say Wandoor. You could easily spend more but if you have little time 2 days should be enough. It might be best to plan it with a travel company in Port Blair before you arrive to save time - so they can arrange a day of signts in and around Port Blair and a daytrip to Wandoor or anywhere else you would like to go.

A daytrip to Havelock would in my view be to little as there is more than enough to ecxperience for at least two days.

I do not believe any resort provide room service in Havelock at the moment. It is possible that "The Kingdom" a new hotel do it - but I would not recommend it. This for reasons that it is not on a beach and it look like any hotel in any Indian city (not very exotic in anyway).

If you can afford it Barefoot is the best and is located on the most beautiful beach. But it is also the most expensive. Can you not afford it I would go for Wild Orchid with Dolphin as my third choice.

There are both reptiles and incects on Havelock. I guess they can be a problem for some (if you don't like them) and a lesser problem for others (if you don't mind them to much).

Hope you guys get a great holiday in Andaman Islands.

Wink Havelock

I suggest that you spend as less time as possible in Port Blair - it is a port township and really is nothing great. Havelock Island on the other hand is beautiful - spend as much time as you can there. No.7 beach is a must, sunset, and the restaurant there just back from the beach is great especially the giant crab! Also elephants walking around that the kids would love. For a bush walk that ends in a great snorkelling spot try the elephant beach walk - but you do have to walk a little way through a muddy part - a great adventure, nothing too extreme.
