Hi Everybody!
I have been looking for accomodation on Havelock island, but it seems to me that most of them are quite expensive with Indian standards. Can anyone suggest a nice and cheap place to stay for two weeks? Thanks a lot!! |

There are cheap shacks strewn along the east coast, from beach #1 all along up to #5/6.
When I was there in March, a bamboo hut to myself cost 150 RUPEES p/night - this was on #2, at Amazon. Honestly, just try a few different places and you'll find something to suit you. |

Hi,
I am going to Andaman Islands from 11-02-07 to 25-02-07. Does anybody know if it is advisable to book "Huts" (the cheap ones for appr. 150 Rs) in Advance or can I just enter the island and find a hut easily? Thanks in Advance Stephan |

I'd be surprised if the places Conor mentioned do bookings (or have telephones) if that's what you mean, but who knows. If you've got the contact information you can always try and call them up right.

Mach's right, these places won't take bookings at that time of year, and many don't have telephones. Consider, when I was leaving at the end of March, they had just got Ten Sports in one of the villages for the first time.
You should be fine just turning up - find a rickshaw driver, and they'll know any places with available huts. |

Thanks,
I think I will just go there and look what I will find (as I am not interested in one of the expensive sleeping places which require Reservation in advance). @Conor M: You mentioned in a different Topic ("A few Tips for the Andaman Islands") that you slept in a hammock. Are you allowed to sleep in a hammock at beach or do you need a certain permit (perhaps owner of a resort could complain)? Where did you buy a Hammock? Was it easy for the tailor to connect the mosquito net with the hammock and to insert a zip? What about the (appr.) costs for everything? I am very interested in that Hammock-MosquitoNet-Solution. :-) Cheers Stephan |
