Two days in Agra and Fathpur Sikri

Hi all,

Being as green as one could be with this great country, I turn to you for wiser guidance.

Me and my friends are starting our conquest of India from Delhi and we´re naturally eager to see Taj. Since I´ve heard so much negative comments on the city of Agra itself, I have created a *cough* masterplan *cough* for spending there as little time as possible:

The idea would be to take an early train (7.15 or 9.55) from Delhi to Agra, Visit Taj Mahal and Agra Fort there and then head for night to Fathpur Sikri (a 1,5 hours bus trip) and hassle-free lodging. Then on next day stroll around the ghost town and then head back to Agra and take the evening train to Delhi.

Does this plan sound reasonable in any way or is the schedule too tight? The buses between Fathpur Sikri and Agra should go two times per hour in average. Can you recommend any hotel/guesthouse at Fathpur Sikri? Dak Bungalow sounds like a gem according the Rough Guide -book, but the reservation systems seems a bit complicated..

Personally I find that the people who are so derogatory about Agra didn't venture outside Taj Ganj.

I quite enjoyed it. Had an amusing episode at Sikandra.

Agra is a dirty city.

10.000 Tourist visit this city everyday still they cant keep it clean.

In my opinion dont stay longer then needed. There are three places to visit:

Fathpur Sikri
Taj Mahal
Red Fort

We arrived at Agra around 15.00 hours visited Fateh Sikri. Stayed in Agra for the night.
Next day visited Taj Mahal at sunrise, breakfast, Red Fort then back to Delhi.
