Is it possible to pre-book tickets for Taj Mahal? Our schedule is tight - probably not the best plan for India.
We are staying in Delhi for two days before travelling to Agra on Feb 21st

It's the security that takes up most of the time.

It won't take very long to enter, if you are thereon a weekday then it might even take lesser time...

I had read that you have to buy tickets 24 hours in advance. Is this not the case?

Someone was asking about this recently and the collective wisdom seemed to be that no, this is not necessary (I suppose some guidebooks say this? Could be it was at some point in the past, I guess.)

I've never been to Agra or the Taj mind, so I wouldn't know. You'd think a place like the Taj should have a decent website of its own, but I'm not so sure. http://asi.nic.in/asi_monu_whs_agratajmahal.asp Makes no mention of it, which won't guarantee much.

Taj night viewing tickets- 24 hrs in advance

Hi Hugh,

Here is the answer to all the confusion about buying tickets 24 hours in advance.

1) For day time viewing you do not need to buy advance tickets. You can just go to any Taj gate and buy tickets.

2) In case you want to view the Taj by moonlight (possible on fullmoon day and 2 days before and after full moon each month). You HAVE TO buy these night-viewing tickets 24 hours in advance.

Tickets sold at- Archieological Survey of India office on Mall Road, Agra.

Have a good trip!

Many thanks - Problem solved. Our hotel is organising the night-time tickets for us, which is probably a bit more expensive than buying them directly. But then we save on a night's accom so I suppose it works.

? I don't think you'll be actually overnighting at the Taj, no? It's just a night visit, I think, unless I'm completely missing something.

ASI says ( http://asi.nic.in/asi_monu_whs_agratajmahal_night.asp )

Quote:
The night viewing of Taj Mahal is opened from 8-30 p.m. to 12-30 in eight batches of 50 persons for half an hour duration.
It is half an hour only for 750 Rs, but a beautiful sight.

Have you already booked your hotel? I should be in Agra on the 21st and was hoping to see the Taj at night but according to a lot of sources on the internet, they stopped allowing night visits in 2006. Can anyone confirm/dispell this?

Anyone know of any cheap hotels with rooftop restaurant views of the Taj as a possible alternative to going on a night visit? Or would my best bet be to goto the otherside of the river and see it by moonlight from there?

We are staying at the Mughal Sheraton (not cheap) and they are organising the tickets for night viewing. My latest info is that they are allowing the night visits again but with restricted numbers and security.

I'm planning to be as strict as possible with the old moolah so I guess I'll be avoiding the night visit. Has anyone ever seen it from the beach across the river at night?

The night visits are definitely on (well they were when we were there a couple of weeks ago). Tickets available a day before or something, I didn't pay enough attention as I wasn't there long enough

And you can definitely just turn up and buy tickets on the day for normal day viewing

750 rs
