Hi
I will be at full moon in agra and would like to visit the taj at moonligt. but i have 2 questions:
- can i buy the tickets somehow in advance?
- as I see, visits are from 20.30h-0.30h...which is the best time to see the moon nicely at blue hour (sky) ?

Full moon rises as the sun sets; you can Google for sunset time in Agra for the dates you'll be there... that will give you some idea of what time to show up.

Taj at Moonlight

Just wanted to give some updated info on tickets for viewing Taj by the moonlight.

The tickets are sold at the Archieological Survey of India office on Mall Road. It closes at 5pm.
The most imp thing to remember is that you HAVE TO buy tickets atleast 24 hours in advance. This is mandatory thanks to some Supreme Court ruling about the Taj.

The UP Tourism website DOES NOT specify this. Instead it just says "you can buy tickets upto 24 hours in advance" without making it clear that it is compulsory.

I went to Agra specifically to see the Taj in moonlight and was disappointed as the person at the counter refused to sell me tickets for that night even though he had many unsold tickets.

Incidentally, only 400 tickets are sold.

The viewing starts from 8.30pm and is on till midnight. You will have to park a little distance away from the monument in a designated parking lot and then will be transported to the gate in a bus running on CNG. Tourists are taking for a viewing round from the main entrance to the Taj in groups of 50.
Also note that for night viewing you are NOT allowed close to the Taj but have to stop some 100 metres away.

Warning: There is lot of smog/fog in Agra in winter so you may not see the Taj clearly so may come back disappointed.

We were also disappointed on Dec 23rd, a full moon night. The ticket price is Rs 750 including children for foreign tourists and Rs 500 for Indian nationals. The tickets have to be purchased previous day and non refundable.

The security was more severe in the night than regular hours. We could not go beyond the front entrance/gate overlooking Taj. Without strong moon light, it is not possible to see much of anything.
