Ok... I'm sure that this has been asked and answered before. However, a definitive answer would be welcome:What's the definition of overseas visitors and Indian. Where would I stand as a foreigner with a resident's permit?

Outside the window of the ticket office.
What the guy on the inside does is entirely down to his understanding (or otherwise) of the rules.
I understand that us "residents" are supposed to pay local prices, but I haven't tried it yet, and wouldn't be surprised to be turned down
.I know someone who had to fight just because her Indian passport was issued in London!.
Many others just look, sound and talk Indian and just get in. Who carries proof of their nationality in their own country?
Great idea Nick ... I am sure looking Indian and talking to the guy at the ticket window in Hindi would help
But then you would also have to try your linguistic skills with the guys checking your ticket, security guys at the entrance and many others down that chain
... they all seem to have their own understanding of the rules.
I was in Agra with some friends recently. They were carrying a digicam that looked quite like a handycam. The guys at the security just wouldn't let them pass ... and no amount of explanations and pleading seemed to work with them and we eventually ended up leaving the camera outside.
This UP tourism site has all the details about tickets, doesn't say much about foreigners with a residence permit though :

US dollars
I visited last year in feb/march and was charged Rp 750,over $20.00AUD, however as i understood it at the time you could also gain entry if you paid $5.00 US, the draw back was that there was no change given so you had to pay with a five dollar note or equivalent, could be worth showing up with some us currency in smaller denominations, i personally thought the 750 Rp was excessive at the time but would gladly pay that sum again to visit once more!hare om jhon
