Taj Admission Cost

Hi. Quick question. I'll be passing through Agra soon. Anyone have updated info on the 1-day admission cost for the Taj Mahal?
Thanks,
Todd

The cost for a westerner to visit the Taj Mahal is, as dehliwala says, Rs 750.

However, there are two elements to this Rs 750 cost of visiting the Taj Mahal, the Rs 250 Taj Mahal entry ticket itself PLUS a Rs 500 tax payable to the Agra Development Authority by non Indians only.

The Rs 500 tourist tax ticket covers the tax element of one visit each to five sites, the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Itimadud-Daula, Sikandra & Fatehpur Sikri, from sunrise to sunset on the same day.

The ticketing operation appeared pretty professional to me, I'd be very surprised if you were "blagged" for "any more money you may be carrying", would you care to elaborate on that? If there is some sort of ticketing scam going on, I'm sure everyone would benefit from your experience.

If you mean that people tried to sell you things you didn't want or persuade you to give them money in exchange for services you weren't interested in, then well yeah, welcome to India!

can you say why it is a bad idea? Backpacks, of course not, but small bags such as ladies handbags are permitted, though of course they are searched.

Pack a lunch and have a picnic along the Yamuna at sunset. The experience pricless, the cost free.

Sorry, but I'm still not sure what you have seen which is a big ripoff.
  • Do you think the admission price of Rs 750 per person is a ripoff just to see an old mausoleum?
  • Were you ripped off by being charged more than the official Rs 750 each?
  • Is it the things around the Taj Mahal like the drive from the car park or the prices at the local hotels that you felt were a ripoff?
  • Or did some idiot think you were green enough to fall for some sort of scam? I know the "Parcel of gems in the post" scam is worked in Agra.

Perhaps s.evans is referring to the touts inside the Taj - official guides, official photo vantage pointer-outers etc.?
