Spare day in Agra, What to do?

Hiyas

I am spending 2 days & 1 night in Agra.

I plan on seeing the Taj at sunset & sunrise & visit the AGra fort.

I am unsure what to do after I have been up to see the Taj at sunrise. It has been suggested that I visit Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Deeg Palace or Mathura & Vrindavan.

I understand that there is not much water or wildlife at Keoladeo, so I do not think that will be enjoyable.

What do you guys think? any other suggestions would be wonderful.

Sarah

There's lots of info on this place on IndiaMike.

Have a great trip

A big plus on the above. It was one of my favorite places despite touts being thick as flies at the Ahmednagar fish market. There are many smaller sites in Agra that are enjoyable. The tourist authority used to have a very nice map of such. Get me one if you can. The "baby Taj" in particular should be mentioned..

So I'd stick to Agra proper on the first day & get the sunrise, sunset thing done as well as Akbar's Tomb @ Sikandra, Chini Ka Rauza etc - buy a few trinkets have a few beers to unclog the famous Agra dust/smog from your airwaves. Hit the Agra Fort in the late afternoon for an inspection & great view of the Taj(preferably from Shah Jahan's imprisoned persepective - there are different 'views' to this story) highlighted by the longer rays of the lowering sun. Then view it(Taj) at sunset from somewhere along the Yumana.

I think I'd do Fatehpur the next morning - early - and then play iy by ear as to what other trouble I could get into to round out the day ......

Fatehpur Sikri

I third the motion to take in Fatehpur Sikri if you have an extra day to spend in Agra. My habit is to skip the guides and wander around taking it in just with my group. I was last in Agra/Fathehpur Sikri in December 1995 with my wife, two sons, and three other friends. That was during our overland Manali to Goa winter migration. We had stops in Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Lucknow, Agra, Indore and Pune before getting our feet wet at Baga Beach. I also give a thumbs up to Zorba the Buddha, an OSHO vegetarian restaurant in Agra.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I have written them all day on my itinerary.

Another question ..Is it possible to see Jaisalmer as a day trip from Agra? no idea about distances etc.. I just have to be back by 9pm to get the overnight train to Varanasi.

I leave for Delhi in 24 hrs, very excited, but I should pack I guess

It's 1000 miles round trip - doable I suppose - but only if you've got a private harrier jump jet at your disposal & don't mind doing your sightseeing about town at a mach 10 speed with your hair slightly on fire ......

Hi,

There are lots more to see in Agra apart from Taj Mahal.
You can visit Sikandra, the lasting rest place of Mughal Emperor Akbar or Chini-ka-Rauza, Jama Masjid, Itimad-ud-daulah Tomb. Even there are some Persian styled Mughal gardens like Ram Bagh, Dayal Bagh and Soami Bagh. I think these places will surely make your trip memorable.
