One decent hotel in Agra?

Help. After weeks of looking at forums and reviews on the net, I still cant find a hotel in agra that is half decent. I want to view the Taj early in the morning so I can catch the noon train to Kota. .I know about the Kamal , which has lots of reviews, half of them terrible, even though apparently really close with good views and that Shanti Lodge burnt down A while back. All the midrange hotels are ghastly, not why I came to India. Any ideas? What about staying at Fatepur Sikri?

Hotel Sheela made Agra bearable (http://www.hotelsheelaagra.com/sheela_main.htm). 100 metres from the Eastern Gate of the Taj. Clean, quiet rooms. Around 600r for a double. Arrived in the evening then got up really early the next morning. Avoided the queues and only had to walk a few metres to see the sun rise over the Taj! Perfect! Quick breakfast, then get your midday train outta there. Just make sure when you arrive in Agra you get a rickshaw to take you to the Eastern Gate and walk to the hotel from there. That way you avoid paying a commission. A compass may come in handy, we had one unscrupulous rickshaw driver take us to the wrong gate and dump us! Hope this helps

Yes Sheela is good ! They have another branch as Sheela Inn also.

Just off some websites where travellers have pounded Hotel Sheela & Sheela Inn with comments. Esp about the linen quality, hot water, bathroom condition etc.

Can anyone who have STAYED in Sheela Inn or Hotel Sheela comment about it?

We are a family with 2 small kids planning to spend one night in Agra and the proximity to Taj from Sheela is tempting. Help please!
