Is the Taj Mahal open on Independence day?

Given that I don't have to work on Independence Day and I have some visitors over I was thinking of visiting the Taj Mahal on Wednesday. I've been told by some that it's closed (and others that it's open!), and also that you cannot cross over from Haryana into Delhi. Anyone know what happens for sure? Also, anyone know if any shops are open if we decide to stay in Delhi (assuming we can get into Delhi!!)?

There is problem in crossing the borders...I do that every year...

its a dry day in Delhi, but you get the booze in Gurgaon, so people cross over to get their quota..no problem whatsoever...

, I have 2 little neices to entertain so I'd still like to do the Taj. Anyone know if it's open on 15th August?

You will be aware the Taj is in Agra, in Uttar Pradesh right?

The Taj was open today & no probelms getting from GGN to UP
