It depends on the city & emporium. Probably 250 - 500rps per emporium stop & 10% on any final sales would be a good ball park estimate.

i doubt they get anything for just a stop (without a purchase) and even if they do, 250 is a bit high for a "commission". more like 25-50.

Well our taxi driver was getting rps 300 per emporium back in 2002. We'd just go in take a quick look around, ask for a business card, then leave and split the commission or apply it towards the days fare. There may well be a substantial reduction in commission involved when bringing a native or non-gora to these over-priced places ..... ya gotta love India!

When I was in Jaipur, I was told 10-12% on the sale of jewellery items (rings).

On the same journey, I asked to be taken for a haircut & shave and the end cost was AU$24 - I'm sure that the rickshaw driver was getting sizeable cut of the inflated price (which in Jodhpur cost me rp20).

It's not just the commission but the inflated prices that they're based on.

In Jaisalmer there's a Govt. emporium that offers touts a 30% comission on items sold - if you go there without a guide or the like, you get the 30% take off the end sale price.

Cheers
