How Crowded is the Taj Really

Unfortunately I can't get to the Taj at the crack of dawn. Apparently there are queues then as well. Are the crowds about 8am or 9 am as terrilble as all that . It's India after all and there's millions of people everywhere

We visited the Taj on a weekday in December, arriving about 0700. We had the place almost to ourselves: there were fewer than a dozen other visitors. At first it was quite foggy; by 0830, however, most of the fog had burned off, making for a photographer's dream since there were still relatively few other people on the grounds.

We visited the Taj on a Saturday in early December 2005. We were there about 8.30 in the morning. Quite a lot of people where visiting it but there were no queues.

There was a small queue at 6:15am but only for the women, no queue for the men.

When we left about 8:30 there were no queues at all.

It was probably 9 am ish when I got to the Taj Mahal (February 2008), having come on the early morning Shatabdi train from Delhi and met up with my guide Anu.

Of course it wasn't deserted, and there will be people in your photos and not just the building, but the crowds weren't intrusive or unbearable. By Indian standards (cf Old Delhi backstreets) it wasn't crowded.

I found the crowds more intrusive at Agra Fort later that morning: lots of school parties including one who were as noisy and badly behaved as British kids (unlike most well behaved Indian school children).
