Good place to eat in Agra?
Hi, everyone! Any thoughts on good places to eat in Agra (all I'm getting from the guidebooks are horror stories and mediocre reviews)?
Thanks so much for your advice! |

Try Zorba the Buddha. A bit of a ride from the main hostel area . . . but Oh So Worth It. Bon Apetite! Scott

Joney's place is good if you feel like some western or Korean food, nice and cheap, especially nice for breakfasts. Not even vaguely fancy but I've eaten there a bunch of times and not been sick

Zorba's is good as far as Agra goes. Flaky, staff but for Agra nothing special. My boy loved the Pizza Hut..

Dasaprakash, 1 Gwalior Road Beind Ashok Hotel is very good for South Indian thalis and dosas. A little pricey, about (Rs 80 - 110, I think) but worth it.

Try the Kamal hotel's rooftop resturant in Taj Ganj. The food is nothing special but the veiws are great. Stayed there for four nights eating breakfast and tea and never got ill.

Joney's! Make sure and drink the lassi's! We ate there 3 times a day because it was a great place to get away from the touts and meet other tourists. Never got sick once eating there. Check out the outdoor kitchen and watch chef whip up great dosas.

It is really good at Joneys - not much authentic Indian stuff in sight, but it's delicious, cheap and friendly (and Agra's not the ideal place to hunt down authenticity anyway). If you're in Taj Ganj, look out for it!
If anyone knows how to shrink this image pls let me know - the click and drag method's not working! |

I'm pretty sure that it wasn't Joney and that this guy was looking after it for him. I've been there a couple of times though and can't remember which time I took the photo

That's chef! Everytime I saw him, he was grinning. I guess he's waiting for the kid to bring a chicken back from the market.

From a budget point of view, you can't beat Joney's.
Back in the late nineties, when they had food poisoning scams in Agra, Joney's was the only place we ate at. The next time we went, we ate at the Sheraton (obviously a little more expensive). Then last year, it was back to Joney's again. Honestly I ate there for every meal and I think I had cheese/tomato jaffles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The best CM Jaffles in India. I mentioned the fact that I had been there 7 years previously so he spent a fair amount of time searching his old comments books. Unfortunately he couldn't find the one from our visit, but honestly he has a huge amount of comments books which shows somewhat hoe popular it is. Will post a couple of pics soon. |

OK -- here's another question: assuming I take the Shatabdi Exp. back to Delhi, is there a good, romantic restaurant to have dinner? (Yes, I will be in Agra on Valentine's Day and, Yes, this is goofy, but.....)
Thanks! |

Safe to eat in Agra
Ha ha - we were so freaked by the horror stories in the guidebooks that we ate at pizza hut! Taj Mahal then pizza hut - sure was a cultural day.

Lucky Restaurant
I ate very well at the Lucky Restaurant - great owner and his son. But that is a couple of years ago.
Also at a more swanky place called Home??Something. |
