Wink Delhi -Agra Round trip in 12 hours

Hi, I have one of my Manager coming to India from US.
He wanted me to find out if he can see the Taj Mahal during the 12 hours he has got to spend in delhi before catching the flight back to US.
I checked the rail, flight options but nothing sounded suitable as I was not sure if he could return back to Delhi airport on time.
Any suggestion how to plan this. I went through the whole site, but could not get an apt reply.(May be because every one plans for minimum 1 day)
His itinerary:
Arrives Delhi on 23rd March at 2 pm by Flight
Has flight to catch on 24th March early morning 1 am.
Wants to see Taj Mahal in the 12 hours in between he has got.

Your earliest reply would help me giving a reply to him, as I just have 5 days to decide.

Thanks

So, wait...he's not doing anything in Delhi? He has the entire time from landing to departure free? So it's essentially the gap between connecting flights? Just checking.

OK, land 2pm.
Out of airport 3pm (or quicker if it's a domestic flight- about half-hour/forty minutes)
Hire car and driver direct from airport to Agra, arrival Agra 6pm.

The Taj closes at 7pm (unless it's full moon night), and you have to factor in possible delays to the flight, on the way, queuing time when you get there...I don't think this is possible. Sorry.

He has time to go into Delhi and do some evening sightseeing, certainly.

Karuna,
Thanks for that info. However, he is arriving by a domestic flight from Hyderabad to Delhi. so should not take ideally 1 hour to come out. However, I understand the flight delay which is quite usual.
Now if I suggest him to come the previous day probably the flight which lands at Delhi the previous afternoon by same time, then let me know the best suited itinerary for him.
I know, then I have many options mentioned in site. So should I go through those or some one can help me quickly..
Thanks.

Yes, if he arrived the day before he has all the choices- flight (easy, since he's already at the domestic airport), train, car...and all day the next day to see the Taj.

Which is best is up to you really, all are possible!

Dear Maloo,

It's very tight. However, it can be tried.

Get a high quality and reliable taxi ready at the airport. Assuming that your guest comes out of the airport at 2:30 PM, you should immediately start for Agra.

Delhi-Agra is 3 hours run, so you are expected to reach at 5:30 PM or say 6:00 PM.

Taj is open only upto 7:30 PM, hence you can be there for 1 hour or so.

At 7:30 start for Delhi. You'll reach at around 10:30, just in time for 1 AM departure.

Two things are crucial here (i) Arrival Time (ii) Taxi.

first one is not in your control, but you can get the second one right.

Even assuming everything went exactly to plan you'd have so little time actually looking at the Taj it would not be worth the effort and expense, in my opinion. I wouldn't even attempt it.

that's right ! But Taj has a charm which nobody can escape. So if somebody has just 1 hr. to look at it, why not ?

I would suggest him to have a glimpse of Delhi instead of trying a tedious and unsure Agra Taj attempt.

From airport direct to Khutub minar 3PM, Humayun tomb in Nizamuddin(Reasonable replica of Taj in red stones)4.30PM, Red fort (6PM), and have a stroll in CP and have some nice Indian food in Karol bagh (9pm).

Back to Airport without tension by 10.30 -11PM return to home with some India!
