I've looked at the Delhi-Agra day trip by train on several websites, and tried to contact them for more information and possibly booking the tour. Unfortunately, there's been no response to my emails. How far in advance is it necessary to book these tours? We'll be in Delhi in early October, but would only have one day to make arrangements before our free day happens.

I've done both; I recommend the train -- specifically the Shatabdi. Fog, accidents, any number of other problems can add hours to a trip by road.

In Agra you can rent a car (and driver) to take you round to the sights, including the Taj, the "baby Taj," the Red Fort, Akhbar's Tomb, and even Fatepur Sikri.

Is a day trip enough though???

So everyone seems to think a day trip to Agra is sufficient? Is it worth staying overnight to see the Taj at night and at dawn..? I would like to see Fatephur Sikri can you cram it in in a day? We could stay overnight and go to Bundi by train (which leaves at about 11am), or do a daytrip from Delhi and then go to Bundi from Delhi by train?????

I agree. Taj should be seen at differnt times. It is extremely beautiful.

For the journey, Shatabdi Express is the best bet. It should be noted that between New Delhi and Agra, it runs at 150 km/hr and is the fastest on Indian Railways.

I'm planning a similair trip.

Land in Delhi airport at 14.05 on Wednesday.

Take off from Delhi airport 11.20 on Friday.

The train sounds like a time saver however won't it also take time to get from the airport to the train? Especially for an novice India traveller?

Do you plan to leave for Agra as soon as you reach Delhi? Might be better to leave the next morning when there will be more willing drivers and/or options, no evening surcharges, & above all plenty of daylight for safer motoring.

We just ran into a bit of a problem. The train we wanted from New Delhi to Agra is available one way, but booked solid for the return trip. Rather than deal with the waiting list, we've decided to hire a car and driver to take us.

We want to book in advance if possible.
Can anyone post, or PM, a agency that can book this for us?

Thanks!

Hi Pugcore,

I have booked that trip with the guys in the link below.

I am still yet to take the trip so can't comment on the final outcome. However I can say that they were prompt in replying to all emails and worked with me to build an intinery that suited me. I understand that maybe they are not the cheapest available but still comparative to where I'm from it's still a steal and worth it for the lack of worry and hassle.
