Buses east - Agra-Lucknow?

I'm in Agra at the moment and was hoping to head east to Lucknow for a little while then Varanasi. According to the the staff at the Cantonment and Agra Fort stations, I won't be able to get any sort of ticket until January. So I suppose that leaves me with the bus. But which, and where from? Anyone have advice?

Train 2420 (Gomti Express) departs Tundla daily at 16:03 and gets to Lucknow at 21:35

2S = Bookable 2nd class seat (good way to travel) = Rs104

There is loads of availability every day over the next week.

Tundla is 25kms from Agra, there will be loads of buses to Tundla as the road from Agra to Tundla is the main Delhi-Kolkata road.

Most likely, though I don't know for sure, ask your hotel owner.

OK, well the buses actually go from Agra Fort Bus Station. I got the train from Tundla - unreserved class, as it turned out - and after a long not terribly nice, but I suppose not awful day I arrived in Lucknow.

It was a bit of an ordeal, but most of the negative things were of my own doing - not booking a ticket early, missing the bus stop in Tundla and going on to Firozabad and back, and not drinking enough and making myself sick.

Feeling a lot happier today.

Sorry to hear about your poor trip, if it's any consolation most of my last trip was aweful, and almost all my own fault.

I'd been 5 times before the trip, so I knew what I was doing, but still I added far too much to my itinerary and travelled about 8000kms in 5 weeks (it was kind of work related though and I had to fit in a lot of meetings), nearly all by Sleeper Class (not air con) or unreserved.

I went to places I knew little about and rarely booked ahead, at one point I was packed so tightly into an unreserved upper berth that I couldn't move, there was not a square ince of floor available to stand on, and I just thought- F£$k it, I've had enough, I climbed over everyone and fell out of the carriage at a station called Attili in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, it was about 2 in the morning (and not the first time on this trip I found myself on a station in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night), I worked out that I could get another train in 4 hours and just went to sleep on the platform.

It's kind of funny thinking back, but it wasn't so funny at the time.

That does sound awful. Fortunately for me, my trip wasn't quite that bad. There's still time for my journey to get worse, though.
