When I went in the evening (December), there was still a very large line at the southern entrance...we went around to the eastern gate and wlked right in.

Appreciate everyone's help.
Best time to see Taj is glorious Indian summer, preferably april and less may.
The weather is just fine to make fotos and who will remember how tourists felt under scorching sun. To have picture of Taj and Jamuna - visit after monsoon. To enjoy details of Taj from close distance - any time of the year.

LC - regarding sunrise/sunset times, I'd suggest looking into a website www.wunderground.com

It's a weather site, provides much more than weather though. Type in Agra, India, then scroll down the Agra page. Lots of info . . . astronomical stuff - sunrises/sets/moon phases/and much more.

By late February fog should be starting to clear up along the river valleys. My favorite single sunrise was in November. Fog was present but laying low. I viewed sunrise from the Fort in Agra. I got to the fort as soon as they opened then bolted upstairs. At first nothing . . . then slowly the sun rose through the fog and smog directly over the dome of the Taj. It was magical. Another view is from the other side of the river. It's quite a long trip to get there . . . but if you want the Taj to yourself, go to the other side. Enjoy. Scott

I was just there 3 weeks ago and we arrived at the Taj around 10:00 AM. We stayed there for just over 2 hours and by the time we left, the lineups to get inside were quite lengthy. It's also best to go on a weekday ( but not on a Friday since the Taj is closed on Friday's )
