I did a Panicker's bus tour which was ghastly but in that time we saw the Taj and Agra Fort (in fact it was within 2 hours if I remember rightly) - 40 mins. at each stop. It was horrid (not enough time) but doable.

exactly what i meant. One can do the Taj and even Fatehpur Sikri in under 2 hours but its just not worth it...better to decide on one place and spend time there ...

Are you sure you are arriving at 2.30 pm? If it is by train that is just a tentative time, depending on from how far you come. If it is at the railway station, it depends at which of the stations, and how much time it takes you to go to the Taj, and so on. I would count on much less time at hand. You need extra time to feel comfortable to go to from where you proceed...

I think you could do both the Taj and Agra Fort in that time. Half an hour to the Taj from the railway (or bus) station, an hour at the Taj. Then half an hour to walk to the fort (or 10 minutes in a rickshaw) and an hour there. Half an hour back to the station. That's a little rushed, and doesn't give you time for lunch, but I would say that it's quite feasible if you really only have that very limited time in Agra and want to see as much as possible.

Don't allot any times...just head straight to the Taj...and spend whatever time it takes to take it all in...that is if you are within whatever time you have,

Once you are satisfied, then look at your watch and if you have more time left dash off to Agra fort..

sounds like sound advice shashank. if ever i get back to agra i might do it the other way round - see the fort and, if there's time over, see the taj. unfortunately i missed the fort as a friend was sick and too ill to walk around so we sat outside in some shade.

The Taj and The Fort are doable. But agree with the above post.Head to the Taj first and if you have time, which you should, then head to the Fort. But I don't see why 3 1/2 hours isn't enough fot this.
