There have been a few threads done (see bottom of this page) on the doability of "Agra in a day". Without Fatehpur Sikri on the agenda, though, you should have ample time for the Fort, Sikandra, & the Taj. You might try lunch at the Sheraton as one option.

Bomi 315 - I was going to pm you but can't - do you think Ramesh would be a good idea to book for a day tour of Delhi to get ourselves orientated.. we will be there 6 days altogether.

I would say yes. I was there last year and stayed in Fatehpur Sikri. I did Agra on a day tour leaving fatehpur sikri in the morning, arranged rickshaw driver for 300 rupees and seeing agra fort Taj Mahal, baby taj, jama masjid and went back in afternoon to fatehpur sikri. I enjoyed fatehpur sikri much more to stay over and enjoy rooftop terrace sunset view in the peaceful village (i was staying in hotel behind the mosque far away from the tourist crowd, in really village like area of fatehpur sikri).

I just came back from Agra. Yes you can do Agra in a day - Taj mahal, baby taj, agra fort and metah bagh/river behind taj for sunset (beautiful! must go!). Perhaps you can start earlier so that you wont have to rush.

Unless you have a car, it will be difficult to squeeze Fatehpur Sikri in with what's mentioned above.

People in Agra and Jaipur are money-centered. Gets very annoying at times. Didnt enjoy myself in both cities as they arent traveller-friendly and the people arent friendly either. Punjabis and Kashmiris are more sincere and nicer.

Post can be done

best time to see the Taj is early morning and the evening. The marble is cooler. This is important as foot wear is not allowed on the Taj. If you prefer to see Taj in the evening, be there before 5'o'clock. otherwise you may not be able to appreciate the beauty of the carvings inside the Taj.

Hi , 8 Hrs are quite enough to see Taj Mahal and Agra Fort , First visit Agra fort then go to hotel Sheraton for nice lunch and then proceed to Taj Mahal , Try to stay till sunet as it is the best time to see the beauty of Taj
You can hire a car @ Rs. 1500 on disposal basis including transfer and sightseeing , you have to pay for monument fees

I think we were at the Taj about 5 hours - but we spent an hour watching the sun rise.. it's beautiful and won't be as freezing now as it was in January!!! It was SO cold at dawn! Definitely go at dawn though - so beautiful to watch the light change and the marble go from blueish white to pink to gold tinged....
