Whilst you could do it in a day; FWIW, We stayed 2 nights in Agra - Taj on arrival day, Fatehpur on day 2, Agra Fort on day 3 with evening departure from Agra Fort station to Jaipur (bags left in station all day).

The answer is probably yes for most visitors. But if you're a photographer who needs certain lighting situations for all your ops or if you are one of those tourists who must stop and ponder (seemingly for hours) at every ornament and architectural curve ..... then maybe 2 days would be better for you. Also, the times I visited Fatepur, huge sections of it were closed for renovations - so the tour/observation was very quick. Does anybody know if it is what/all/most is open for traversing?

Hi, I would give myself 2 days, then you have enough time to see the fort at Agra and Akbars mausuleum at Sikandra and obviously the Taj, I recommend the early morning for the Taj less people.

I'd suggest leaving the Taj Mahal until the following morning, and get there at 6; it's beautiful in the early morning. That would give you plenty of time to do Fatehpur Sikri and probably Agra Fort too on the first day. (The drawback to that is that you would not get the substantial discount available when you visit both the Taj and the Fort on the same day). In the evening, there are a number of very atmospheric places to eat in the old part of Agra, some with rooftop views of the Taj. Please don't rush it. |
