| As long as you don't walk, skip or take a tonga to Fatephur .... it should really be a piece of cake ...... you'll have time to see Sikandra as well .... so be sure to include that little beauty in your itinerary as well.

I'd plan for this train arriving at about 07:00, this will keep you a little more relaxed when planning a tight schedule, trains often run late, so best to be prepared. Train 2988 departs Agra Fort at 18:20, this train is unlikely to be running late as it only starts from Gwalior, but here is another option to maximise your time in Agra/Fatehpur Sikri. The same train (2988) departs Bharatpur at 19:17, Bharatpur is 24 Kms by direct road from Fatehpur Sikri, as it's 35 Kms back to Agra, and then you'd have to face the Agra traffic, Bharatpur seems like a better option, gaining you the hour I've just taken away from you. You would need to go (with your ticket) to a computerised reservation centre (anywhere) and tell them you'll be boarding the train at Bharatpur instead of Agra Fort, you don't have to change your ticket or reservation, but you must let them know, otherwise they'll assume you have missed your train in Agra and give your seat/berth to someone else.

I doubt the money saved by booking from Bharatpur instead of Agra would cover the cancellation fee and the new booking fee.

| Can anyone let me know how comfortable the local buses are in Agra? How often are there buses to Fatehpur sikri? How far is Agra fort? What is the best and most economical way for sight seeing in and around agra? Please help! Thanks, Soumya |

| frankly the distances in agra ain't so much that you are bothering about comforts of a bus. Another economical & yet comfortable way would be to hire an auto for the whole day for all the local sightseeing, cost approx. Rs 400 Otherwise Cycle - rickshaw.

| Lord of Kalinjar | hmmmm . . . looking at the original post, I reckon NG has long since blown thru Agra. Would love to hear how it went, isn't it? Still, here at IM, it's a regular feature for someone to ask how much they can see of Agra in the shorterst amount of time, so a few thoughts on that: I suppose if you're on some treasure hunt, where actually being in a place for a few minutes counts, you could see lost of places in Agra. What a shame it would be to come all the way to Agra for the view of a lifetime and rush the moment! If you want to really get anything out of what you are seeing, then you'll need a few hours minimum at each place. It takes awhile at the TaJ to let the enormity of the magic in front of your eyes really sink in. Same for Fatepur Sikri and Sikandra. Take some time to sit somewhere quiet and let it wash over you- that's why they are located in gardens. ![]() But hey, I'm just a fuddy-duddy from another century . . . |
