Jaisalmer-Delhi flights from 1st December
Indian Airlines had planned to start flights between Jaisalmer & Delhi (direct, non stop) from 1st November, but for some reason they have put the start date back to 1st December, though I can't find the reason why, hopefully just availability of aircraft, because if they're waiting for permission to use Jaisalmer airport, we could be in for a long wait.
Flight IC 461 - Delhi 12:00, Jaisalmer 13:10 Flight IC 462 - Jaisalmer 14:10, Delhi 15:20 |

how can anyone tell you that !! Its has not yet started, and secondly flights don't have any fixed fares, they vary on a daily, sometimes hourly basis..

In 2001 they used be 135US dollars. Thanks for the post Steven, I hadn't caught up with that one either.. I am hoping to fly back from Delhi around Dec. 10 -- maybe they will be delayed another month... Typical isn't it??

Jaisalmer - Delhi flights from 1 December
Just to add to the info about this, I have booked and paid through an Indian Airlines agent in Australia for flights from Delhi to Jaisalmer in late December 2007. I couldn't do it online.
The fare was INR 3185 one way for an adult, INR 2389 for a child. |

thanks troppo - I have been wondering how much and just haven't had the time to call into the local agent. This is very reasonable - I remember I paid something like 120 US dollars before in 2001. At that stage the dollar had more value and in INR it was around one and a half times more than this price! Actually it was even more! i checked again and it was as I first posted, 135 US dollars which makes this even more of a bargain for me.

Well Troppo you were lucky and I wish i had done my booking earlier. This morning tried internet - seats not available for dates, 7 Dec to go to Delhi and return Jaisalmer 10 December. so I went to local agent. 3185r seats are all sold, now available are 4,440r seats (senior discount included in this amount). So this is what I have paid. Because I don't want to spend time travelling, I booked. The one hour, ten minutes flight appeals to me and the fact I will be home earlier than if i train, stay in Jodhpur on way back etc. It's my Xmas present to myself! Posting to let others know the cheap price Troppo got was for a certain no. of seats only. So if you want to fly, book well ahead.

Walkup
Eons ago, there varibility of fares in domestic sector was very neglible. Even with the carriers that plied the fare. Whether you bought the ticket months in advance or walkup - in INR or USD - same deal....
And then the expats (who had ruined a few US airlines to their credit ) arrived home..... Waiting... ![]() |

Update - this morning I called into the agent to confirm rumour reading on IM that flights were again postponing, and they told me a firm answer will be given around November 15. There is now some doubt whether they will go although the agent said strong possibility still running. The reasons are lack of bookings and not economically viable and something to do with chartering small plane (sorry couldn't quite understand that bit..) if they are cancelled he said i can car to Jodhpur and then fly to Delhi, and then vice versa for return trip. Not sure if IA supply the car..
Other news is that Kingfisher from 1st December are running a flight, Jaipur - Udaipur - Jaisalmer leaving Jaipur at 7.30 a.m. and arriving jaisalmer at 11.20. Plane departs Jaisalmer at 12 noon for Aurangabad. So it is not a return back to Jaipur. This is all meant to be confirmed. |

Now Nov.15 - went to agent. All flights are cancelled Delhi-Jaisalmer, Jaisalmer- Delhi. I have re-booked Jodhpur-Delhi-Jodhpur. There is only a straight refund of money, no arrangement for getting to Jodhpur etc. I'm not very impressed with IA, I must say. So troppo I suggest you get back to agent or computer and check also your dates and if flight is going or not. Mine were Dec.7th and 10th.
With the Jodhpur re-booking the amount came to only 595 rupees less than my original tickets. Not enough to compensate travel to Jodhpur and back. |

Thanks very much, Aishah. I have emailed our IA agent in Australia with your information.
On a separate issue, do you think the Pakistan elections are likely to create civil unrest in India in the lead up to 9 January? |
