I wouldn't touch Norton with a barge pole.

So what if my bad experiences were more than ten years ago: if they are bad enough, the company looses its rights to another chance. Ever.

There was a time, I think, that many people had trouble with Zone alarm: I wasn't using it then, and it has never, so far, given me agro. Occasionally having to find out why something is not getting through is the price one pays for security.

I've used it for some time and it's pretty good. AVG is good and free too.

I recently moved to PC-cillin Internet Security suite after reading good reviews in Consumer Reports. $39 for 3 PCs for one year. Kaspersky is another good paid antivirus.

My Swedish banks use personal encryption systems that make me laugh at keyloggers and similar efforts. Any authorization code I use is unique and can't ever be re-used. Besides, even the way I use my hand when entering any open info will be bloody hard to detect from a video or similar recording. There will be some deliberate twitching that will be awfully hard to distinguish from key pressing. My only ATM problems in India so far have been from poor screen instructions.

My english bank (the co-op) is laughable by comparison. I need only enter my 4 digit passcode and answer one of 4 questions and i'm in.
Im not sure it'll have much affect but i think i might just drop them a line to see if they themselves are happy with this system

It took a while... then it popped out of the brain cell it pooped into .

Can anyone point me to a tutorial in installing a copy of Firefox to a thumb-thingy (or pendrive, or whatever they are called?) --- or even on a CD! So I can carry my bookmarks and environment around with me, as I am about to do some traveling.

Oh... what do people use for mail? Errr.... guess I could carry Thunderbird around too, but I think I'd rather use a web-based mail reader.

Here you go: (nothing to it really)

Installing Firefox Portable
To install Firefox Portable, just download the portable package at the top of the Firefox Portable page and then double-click it. Select the location you wish to install to and click OK. A FirefoxPortable directory will be created there and all the necessary files installed. That's all there is to it.

More here: http://portableapps.com/support/firefox_portable

Look around the site, (I'd posted the link up-thread too) and you have all kinds of applications, even a photo editor.

I have the entire suite installed on my flash drive and it really good.

The last time I was in India, neither of my bank cards worked in any ATMs so I got cash advanced on my credit cards. I then emailed someone at home and had them transfer the money to my credit card, thus not paying any interest. They were doing all my other banking and taking care of my house while I was away. I felt more secure doing this than using the computers at the internet cafes. I also brought some cash along and my partner had some travellers cheques. I always like to have a few options when it comes to money.

This link seems to have a valid low tech idea for dealing with key loggers, if one must log into sensitive sites in public access environment.

So, if i get what this is saying what you do is:

- open 2 pages, one the log-in that you are trying to access, and the other a blank page in which you can type
- between each letter of the password, using the mouse, you switch to the blank document and enter several random letters/digits before return to the log-in to enter the next password letter

Is that corect?
