excellent write-up...
Now that a nuclear plant is coming up in Jaitapur, your write-up reminds me of 'Village by the sea' by Anita Desai. The story is based on village near Alibaug and mentions the villager’s resistance to the industrialisation of the area.

..."when a bus from city comes to a village, it brings hope but in the barter takes away the innocence".....

Couldn't be more true

Thank you all for your appreciation....

It really elates me that my write ups are able to evoke an emotion.... I always wondered if I can become a travel writer.... but slowly and surely I am gaining in confidence....

We only live once...and if we can just chase our dreams.... and actualize them...what a life it would be

You def. have it in you to become a travel writer. I have read all your travelogues posted on Indiamike & believe me each of them would get published in any of the travel magazines.

That is one thing I missed...that is taking Photographs... I did not have any camera till a few days ago....never thought of investing a 1000 rupees in keeping the memory alive....wasnt good financially till a few years ago...

And now that I am having a camera... I am far from India....and still travelling off beat, away from the beaten tracks of Egypt...taking a lots of Photographs ...and waiting for the day when a selfless soul starts an EGYPTMIKE

I have read Dharmadhikari's book when I used to attend lectures delivered by him on several issues. He does have tendency to be pedagogic. Anyway during one of his series of lectures on 'Heroes of India' he had included both Savarkar and gandhi. Now its a lot of mix and match. Savarkar, prescribed as heretic, incendiary revoultionary (mostly, the epithets are used in derogatory sense) and I dont even need to start talking about Gandhi!!

Anyway,he delivered a lecture on Savarkar supporting him left and right. Next day he was supposed to 'enlighten' us on gandhi.He started his lecture with everything delicious he could talk about him. Essentially Savarkarian and Gandhian philosophies are mutually exclusive. That I felt rather short-changed by Dharmadhikari.

I thought the book is too over the top and has so many high falutin beliefs about politics in India. It is too idealistic.

Jaitapur is my native place, i was born there in the year 1970. I was there till 6th standard(for about 10years). Then shifted and settled down in Mumbai but still Visit Jaitapur whenever i get the chance. U r article has refreshed my sweet memories of my childhood days. Incidentaly I know Mr.Ninad Sawant(He is my classmate from New Law College). Thanx a lot for wonderful write up about my native place. Would like to meet u personally.
