Roha Waiting

The Story - Waiting for the bus at the Roha bus station a few hours from Murud on the coast, my destination . A report came in from the desk - in sign language no english around here - that the bus had broken down in the hills outside of Roha. I went for a walk. The whole town came alive near dusk.http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=28298 It was a street fare that happened every day. I went back to the station. The bus was still broken down somewhere but should be in soon. I thought do I want to travel over the mountains to the coast and arrive at midnight with no reservation. Finally it was pitch black dark and the information desk was lit by one candle. There is no power in the whole town until the morning. Finally it became clear that I was not going anywhere today. Some young students saw me and wanted to practice their english. They assured me - no bus tonight. I thought of sleeping in the station. They motioned me to follow them. They took me across the street to a hotel which was literally 12 feet wide 3 stories. I checked in for 125 rupees. ($2.60 USD) I noticed while I lay in my windowless room that there was a strong smell of something. I checked around the room everything was clean. I looked outside but it was pitch black dark since the power was off. I finally fell asleep and woke in the morning. I went up to the roof at the back of the hotel and I saw where the smell was coming from. There was 10 feet of trash right up to the hotel - about two football fields. I went back to bus station and finally got the RELAX BUS to Murud. On the way I took this photo in the clean pristine countryside. It was worth the wait in Roha
