Rangoli, Bangalore

Rangoli: decorative floor patterns, known as *kolam* in Tamil, *rangavalli* (or *muggu*) in Telugu. I associate them mostly with South India, but apparently the art is in fact spread throughout the country (and then known under its own names again). Besides being decorative (and done fresh every morning I believe, often by the lady of the household), they are of course said to be of religious origin; according to Wikipedia for instance, "meant as [a] sacred welcoming area for the deities."
This one found just on the streets in Bangalore's Sultanpalya district, a pleasant and quiet residential area, where I had the good fortune to stay with a dear IM member.
