Situated within the Fort St. George complex in Chennai (Madras), St. Mary's is the oldest surviving Anglican Church in India. It was built over 2 years and was consecrated on 28th October, 1680.
There are registers of baptism, burials and marriages dating from 1680 on display and include an entry of the marriage of Elihu Yale – once the Governor of Fort St. George and after who Yale University in the United States is named.
