India's only rail bridge on open sea

This railway bridge connects Rameswaram island with rest of India. This bridge is a concern for Indian Railways with the gauge conversion project on. IR is unable to convert rameswaram to broad gauge as it requires huge expenditure in replacing this bridge. This area is the second most corrosive place in the world after San Francisco Bay (Golden Gate). NOTE: It is a cantilever bridge. There is a small hut with the controls to operate the cantilevers.

iyou says: Interesting photo, and informative description. I wonder if the authorities would take a less enthusiastic view of your efforts, however. The Gov't of India has in the past been very uptight about photography in railway stations, airports, even photography from your seat in a plane was until recently not permitted. Anyway, nice shot. Thanks.
