Negatives: AC unit

We stayed here twice in 2010; the first time was for just a couple of nights (post long-haul flight) and the second time for a week. Staying for longer meant we got a reduced room rate (INR 600). It's a place not overrun by other tourists where you can watch the ebb and flow of life. Situated in a tibetan colony, many monks pass through using it a travel pit-stop; great tibetan food! There are also the influences of the 'river-families' and street families on either side, plus a Sikh community just south. Easy to access transport just out of the gate (though brace yourself for the competition). It's initially a little hard to find, but don't let that put you off. The Colony seems to run itself through an active committee - no alcohol allowed (though could be sourced if you just want a beer). It was very hot when we returned - sadly the Air Con seemed dead.
