Hotel Mahabs - I liked it.

This is my 5th visit to Mamallapuram. I stayed once at the Ideal Beach Resort and 3 times at the Mamalla Bhavan Annexe/Heritage.(name change)
On this trip (Jan 2010)I stayed the first 2 nights at Mamalla Heritage then moved to the Mahabs for 5 nights which is more or less across the road.
This place is fairly new.The staff are keen, the place is kept very clean.
There's plenty of trees for relaxing in the shade. A good pool.
The room we had at Mahabs was bigger than the one at Mamalla Heritage for the same price.
I didn't use the restaurant.
I'm prefer traditional local food in TN and used the original Mamalla Bhavan restaurant and the Hotel Guru (meals, fish fry!)for most meals.
I had a couple of meals at Mamalla Heritage's Golden Palate restaurant.
The lunchtime thalis were v good , the evening "north Indian" style food was poor.(what happened to my "local food?")
I's definitely recommend Mahabs hotel .It will be on my itinerary next year.
