Relaxing stay

Positives: Relaxing atmosphere and welcoming family
Negatives: Overly abundant food

We just came back from Kerala and the 3 days in Rose Gardens was definitely the highlight of our trip. We stayed there over Christmas of 2009, with cake and fireworks to mark the night. We particularly enjoyed the part of meeting other couples from different countries, chatting away (with beer) on the back porch facing the garden, playing games after a huge dinner, and hiking through the tea plantations together. The family's welcoming hospitality definitely helped bring all of us together. The two boys in the family helped cooking, serving, touring, but most of all they also are great playmates if you want some action and rejuvenating energy.

The homestay now has 5 rooms, and they were completely occupied for a couple days during our stay. This new addition apparently made the family very busy in taking care all of us, but we never felt neglected. The room we stayed in has two big beds, together almost greater than king size. It's very clean and spacious, with modern bathroom facility. There are lounge chairs on the porch where you can relax and read. I recommend asking for the room at the back of the house facing the garden to avoid the noise from NH47. We got a room facing the road and during the day the sound of traffic is present, although we never got bothered during the night and had awesome sleep. The common area is spacious, but currently only has the dining table. It appears they are in the process of setting up the area.

The food prepared by Rahjee is definitely more than abundant. They have homemade honey and coffee that are absolutely delicious. We had 7-8 meals there and almost nothing repeated on the menu (except for the never ending bananas and pineapples.) We all had the same meal, but they can accommodate vegetarians by making separate dishes. We loved the homemade Keralan food and were happy to let them design the courses so we don't have to decide what we want.

We also liked the fact that Rose Gardens is 10 km away from Munnar town after we visited it. Compared to town, where Rose Garden is situated definitely gives a much more tranquil feel. There is also a wonderful view point around 5 minutes walk from the homestay; at the same spot a small shop sells snacks and beverages. We took a bus in front of the homestay to Munnar which takes around 20-30 minutes and 10 rupees. You can also take the rickshaw which costs more but faster. We did not feel the inconvenience because of the distance. Tomy is also very helpful in arranging transportation to anywhere you want to go, during and after the stay.

Overall, I recommend this place for those who want to relax, enjoy nature and good company.
