a great choice in Jaisalmer

Our stay at The Shahi Palace got off to a great start with the pre dawn pickup from the train station. We were then given a room in which to nap, until a more civilized hour when we were given a tour and choice of available rooms. Our room was very nice AND comfortable. The desert wind and the view of the fort made each evening visit to the rooftop restaurant an occasion to remember (Food; fair to good, not great). Dealing with the management and staff couldn't have been easier. As expected, we were asked on our first day if we were interested in a camel safari. We said "no thank you" and braced ourselves for the hard sell and change of attitude. Neither came, and it wasn't mentioned again.
The hotel is located outside, but very close to, the fort. This means that one is not adding to the problems caused by visitor's water demands inside the fort. (apparently, the place is sinking)
I would not hesitate to return to, or recommend The Shahi Palace.
