I stayed at other guest houses in Varanasi but decided to stay at the Sita after it was reccommended to me by a former guest. This is the best place to stay in Varanasi - I stayed a week here. It is safe and has an elegant look from the outside; there is a palatial feeling of granduer as you ascend the steps to the front door overlooking the river. You can walk to the nightly puja ceremony and be in all the color and bustle of Varanasi without hearing any noise, motors, or clamor. It feels like being home but with a lot more luxury. Its location on the Ganges River is unsurpassed - walking in the door I felt peace and relief from the chaos of Varanasi - Gokul the owner-manager welcomes you heartily and will make you feel comfortable and happy with his guidance and extensive knowledge of Varanasi as he is a native. There is a wide range of rooms available from lower budget to luxurious, come and take your pick you will not want to leave! Goldie Hawn has been a frequent guest for 15 years. Gokul's father is Goldie's astrologer - D n Shastri is his name.
