This little gem of a "lodging house" was like an oasis in the desert. In Dharmapuri there are a few more hotels alright, but are higher priced than the KGS. This little place is in the middle of a row of shops in Chinna Swamy Naidu Street (Opp a little coffee shop, fabric shops etc.) The reception is on the first floor (go up steps and take lift) It's sumptious indeed! The staff are friendly and courteous. I went in there last year and was told the price (700 rupees) and promptly began to walk away, saying that I was staying for 7 weeks and couldn't afford it. I was persuaded (of course!) to look at one of the rooms and again said I couldn't afford it that length of time. By the time we had reached the reception floor the owner had come down to 350 rupees a night - I took the room. This little lodging house's accommodation would probably cost 1500+ rupees minimum in Bangalore, 130 Euro's in Cork or Dublin City and £90 in London. I didn't like that the reception was on the first floor, but that anyone could take the lift from the street entrance and bypass reception to find and knock on your room door! I had a stream of kids and people doing that!!. Also, beware of when your room is cleaned - make sure that you either tell the reception to ask that they make sure to lock the room after, or, like me, tell them you'll clean the room yourself and keep the key with you. I did and it worked a treat - as first of all I found the door wide open twice upon returning from work - not a safe feeling when anyone can bypass reception and get to the rooms - and I had my laptop in the wardobe ;-). When leaving your room, despite the heat, don't leave your windows open at all - not even a crack. The Macac Monkeys that roam around here (l o a d s of them) will enter the room and steal all they want to!!! trouble is, the blame for missing property might be put on to an innocent person - that's the truth! My little son had HIS toy monkey stolen by one of these "darling" little creatures as we were leaving the room on day - the real monkey jumped in the window, stolr the toy off the bed and promptly jumped out the window again - much to my son's dismay!!. Very elegant built-in wardobe/dressingtables; A/C or non A/C. Celiing fan,CLEAN bedding (massive beds!) new furniture in rooms..i.e. beautiful brand new arm chairs, coffee table etc.. Colour TV (40 channels, Phone, bedside tables,Shower (cool/warm/cold - depends on the temp outside!!) Nice bathrooms -(even if some are a tiny bit tacky - but believe me, nothing to really speak of) Drinking glasses, plates etc..in cupboard for your use. Lovely Marble floors. Kgs Lodging House Tamil Nadu Rates and Room Information
I stayed here between May 2004 - end of July 2004 and was charged 350 a night. The people are so nice, that I believe it wouldn't matter what time of year you arrived here. Just be very polite and pleasant to them and you will see the price tumble!
