Our room at the Ganpati was fine. It had an excellent view to the river and was comfortable. The manager was a wealth of information and easy to talk to. The restaurant was decent but the wait staff very lackadaisical and not all that friendly. In general there seemed to be a number of younger guys just hanging around talking ... read more »

I stayed in room 7 at 1000rs in February 2012. I chose it because of it's high ratings and the promise of a great location one banks of the Ganges. It lived up to all of my expectations. The room was larger, newer and cleaner than expected. The restaurants special thali was absolutely delicious. The views of the ghat and the ... read more »

The view is the best thing about this hotel - bang on the Ganga it is heavenly to watch life stream by.
Something does not seem right ; two bathrooms only, a sign on the wall of the hotel ( on the Ganges side) that says it was a widows old age home ( see photographs).
Food is acceptable but pricey.

2 Bathrooms for 40 Rooms
on Aug 19, 2011.
4 of us stayed at the Ganpati in March. We freaked when we realized there were only 2 Bathrooms (so, 2 showers) for about 40 rooms. But, everyone was polite and none of us had problems getting into one of the bathrooms. Other than that the food service was great, no problems with the rooms or the staff. The view from the ... read more »
We loved this Hotel. I was there with my 3 and 10 yr olds. The room we stayed in was large and had everything we needed. The balcony was great for watching the Ganges and there were plenty of places to sit and hang out... Rooftop restaurant was nice but expensive (but Varansi in general was expensive). Our room was 700rs in ... read more »
Not as described
We booked an AC room by phone but when we arrived the staff claimed they did not have AC rooms and gave us a very hot room with no windows for 700rs. We were extremely annoyed and had a very hot night as the electricity also went off for hours!! Needless to say, we moved on the next day. So be very careful that you get what ... read more »

Very Rough Start but it got a bit better

My first room the first night was a nightmare! I initially wanted a room w/ a balcony overlooking the Ganges. It was post monsoon season so it was hot & humid as hell. My room had no AC (but a ceiling fan), NO windows for ventilation, dirty looking sheets, 2 ginormous residential lizards which I thought were going to swallow ... read more »
My friend and I stayed here for two nights just last week, and we loved it. The balconies and the garden restaurant are fantastic. The staff is super helpful and went all out to get us into our room early after we got off of a night train. Food was decent too. We have no serious complaints about this place and would certainly ... read more »

Great ambience, lovely painted rooms (with orange doors and blue walls). The owner is supposed to be the local transport-arranging-guru, i.e. if anyone can organise an airplane ticket, he can.

The location is great

The location is great, but you can only reach this hotel via _very_ dirty alleys. The rooms and facilities itself are OK (the court is nice, that must be said), not too dirty although a bit on the expensive side, especially the ensuites. The prices mentioned here are NOT CORRECT!
