Good value, relaxed atmosphere with seating on balconies to enjoy the great view or courtyard garden. You are right on the Ganges, with stairs that lead directly down to the ghats. Bit of a post-hippy travelers crash-pad, with beginning tabla students from the adjoining Baba school of music running around, international backpackers and students. Decently clean, but bathrooms have their share of leaky pipes, stains and ad hoc patched repairs. Just be careful to confirm your reservation with a deposit-- our reservation was changed from room with private bath to shared bath, and we were not happy about this! Clearly they are in the practice of overbooking, so be careful to confirm. Other than this problem, we enjoyed our stay. Restaurant is only passable, but finding outstanding food in Varanasi is a challenge in general. Staff is helpful but hits you up for tips at the end. I didn't stay here, but I'd contacted the establishment while making preparations for our trip. We stayed at Scindhia Guest House, but it can be a little noisy at that end of the ghats. So while we took a walk to the south, I popped in at Ganpati to ask if they had any open rooms. I just liked the way the place looked and felt ... read more »
